Mother was very protective, it was funny to watch as the other hippo tried to come nearer to peek at the baby, only to be aggressively chased away by mum. As the light faded and it became too dark to photgraph. I left what appeared to be a group of adoring aunties, patiently lining up, eager to welcome the new arrival.
In early 2010 lots went on at Island dam. In February a hippo died and in early April, one was born. Leopard have also been grequently spotted in the surrounding area.
